Tiny Prints arrived in style

I ordered these announcement/thank you postcards for my family and friends from tiny prints and I am very pleased with the print quality. They offer many great designs and I'm hard to please. They also let you customize the various elements of the design to fit your image perfectly. I am glad to hear that they have made to move to go green and all of their photo cards are now either made of 30% recycled paper (still not as good as 100%) or printed on FSC ( Forest Stewardship Council-certified) paper. I love a naked babes and all the rolls they have! My daughter just learned to sit on her own so it's only a matter of time before she's grabbing onto things trying to walk. She seems nice and calm in the these photo's, but her nick name is ms. Busy Britches. Her scar on her chest is from having to undergo heart surgery when she was born, but she's 100% healthy now;) Thank God!

New Engagement Lovin'

Having been gone for a long time, I'm back in full affect. I gave birth to our second child, Jayda Aliana, and photos will be coming soon. But in the mean time, just because I haven't been a presence on the web, doesn't mean I haven't been working. Sorelle and Jesse have been friends of ours for a while and I was honored to spend some quality time with them capturing how they feel about each other. This lovely couple wanted Washington DC to be their backdrop so we headed to the title basin, the capital, and the mall. I was about 7-8 months pregnant but that didn't stop us, we were determined to get these done for their save the date.

Hey guys,
I have been looking for wedding album companies that are "eco-friendly" or use materials that are kind to the earth and take into consideration our future generations. Kiss wedding albums, while they are super sexy, they only used leather for their covers and haven't mentioned anything about using water based non-toxic binding materials. Finally, they have come out with a linen cover soft book that I plan on ordering as a sample in the near future. Cheers!

Bright vintage colors

I'm playing with this new technique, adjusting the highlight and shadow hues in lightroom. I haven't decided if I like making these kinds of adjustments better in lightroom or in photoshop. For some reason I still feel more in control in photoshop.I welcome comments and suggestions!

latest design: 1960 inspired

This was an invitation designed for a clients 40th anniversary. It was interesting to design because I wasn't really familiar with adds made during the 50's and 60's before doing research for this design. I stuck with a vintage font, speech bubbles, and sampled colors directly from the photo given. Sadly I can't take credit for the really cute idea of using the song titles from the 60's, the client provided that.

My moo cards arrived!
I was so excited, I had been stalking moo users for a week straight gathering marketing ideas and thinking of every possible way I could use my moos. I am satisfied with the results. Beautifully designed packaging and marketing materials, Go MOO! They even print on eco friendly materials. And their card stock is not flimsy, very high quality.

I also ordered the key ring carrying case, and couldn't stop practicing the one hand business promotion motion. It feels so good in your hand.

By the way I found a great resource for photographers who want their business to be kind to the environment HERE!

I would make a couple of changes when ordering from them next time.
1) I would upload straight to them instead of through Flickr.
2) I would make all the text bold on the back because it's kind of hard to read.
3) I would make my logo a bit thicker. Thin lines don't print that well.
4) I would make the colors brighter. They were darker than I had expected.

Viovio trial fails

I should have known by the quality of their website that I would receive a "B" product in the mail. My theory has always been that if a company invests in the design of their marketing materials they must care about the design and quality of their product.

I ripped the package open and the first thing I thought to myself was, "I thought this cover was supposed to be black!" Instead it was dark gray with printer streaks in it. Good price but poor quality. And you can see the glue and registration marks ending in weird places between each page.

A few redeeming qualities were that you can place text anywhere on any page, and the print quality on the inside is satisfactory. I'm trying Qoop next, I already ordered but I was not liking the limited options when laying out the book. Although, maybe simple is better.

Vignette and Saturation

I have fallen in love with shooting RAW and the amazing preview window you get with all tabs of options. I took some raw shoots of Camden riding his "Cool shiny bike" as he calls it. I have become vignette happy. It almost feels like I'm cheating. I used to duplicate the image layer in Photoshop, then change the mode to multiply, then add a mask and make a black circular gradient on the mask.

The colors are looking slightly less saturated as I upload them than they did in Photoshop. I have to check my preview settings. This is our dog Sony. I also fiddled with some of the sharpening features in the RAW preview window of this photo, because it was a hair off.

The Good ol' Days

I was surfing the web looking at other photographers pages, cause that what I do when I get a free minute. I ran across some beautiful wedding photos that had an old feel to them. They also had a texture which I can't decide if I liked or not. It inspired me to try out some techniques I had shown my students how to do, but never did to my own work. Here are some results...

By the way, this is my close neighbor's son whom I will be borrowing for more of my experiments. He also has a new sister who I want to take photos of soon.

These were all shot RAW, which I'm getting used to shooting in. I've also been adjusting the film speed and accidentally left it on 1600 in this bright sun. I thought it would be nasty, it's not bad, but I would have preferred to have had the option of clarity.
